Build: the numbers inside numbers

If your child has their times tables and is ready to be stretched, this is where numbers get really interesting.

-->

The rows and columns, or arrays, show us the connection between addition and multiplication. But if we want to progress further in maths and have a deep understanding of multiplication, we need to start using building blocks that are based on multiplication. We introduce these building blocks with a challenge to find out how they work. Discovering which numbers can be built, and which simply cannot, turns multiplication into an exploration, and it is the idea sitting quietly underneath fractions, factors and a great deal of the maths still to come.

Numbers You Can Build moves your child from the black-and-white world of addition into the full colour of multiplication. Here they can discover the numbers that can and cannot be made. Have a go, or leave your email and we will send the activities as they grow.
